Rookie Question: Help Seeding!

Post by petermj »

I have been using Vuze for quite some time now and have become fed up with the errors and complexity of the software. I have now downloaded Transmission and have several torrent files that I would like to continue seeding - as they were in Vuze.

How do I begin to seed them again in Transmission? I tried to "Open a Torrent File" and it tried to download the pieces once again. I already HAVE the files and was seeding them before I switched clients.

I know it's a rookie question - please help!

Thanks for the tip on the Prefs, X190. The "adding transfer" options window was checked by default in Transmission. But i'm not sure if this is the window that opens when you add a new .torrent file. That window is named after the package about to be downloaded, it gives options on where to locate the package that will be downloaded, which files will be downloaded, priorities, a Verify Local Data, Add & Cancel buttons and a few other options. Is this the "adding transfer" window?
In this window, whether Transmission already knows the file locations, or if i tell it, the only result of Add/continue is to download the package again.

I'm not sure what you mean by 're-add the .torrent file.'
If you double-click a .torrent file, or drag it into the Transmission window, or from the menu File>Open Torrent File, it is added to the list and will always begin to re-download the entire package. I see no way to seed without downloading. Can you give explicit steps?
thanks!
