error message: "file name too long"

Post by Rocci »

Hallo! I'm at 8% in a download and it stopped saying: Error: file name too long.
It is a folder with a lot of subfolders.. and I don't know how many files... How can I find the file that stops the download process?
thanks

That error message comes from the OS when Transmission tries to create a file whose pathname is too long. You can probably get around this by moving the torrent to a "shorter" directory -- that is, instead of saving to "/some/really/long/path/where/I/save/my/torrents", use something like "/data/torrents" instead.

Thank you.. I tried, but it's not enough...!! Can I change the names of the files in the subfolders while transmission is downloading? Because are really the names of the files that are too long!!

No, there's not a way to do that.

Hitting the maximum file length is really unusual for a torrent. Are the nested directories inside this .torrent really that deep?
