Can I uncheck files AFTER downloaded to save space?

Post by finny388 »

I have downloaded a composite torrent with many files.

I unchecked half of them before initiating the download b/c I didn't need them.

It has finished downloaded. Now there are more files I could discard to save space on my drive.

I tried double-clicking the torrent, going to the File tab and unchecking the undesired files.

The aren't removing however.

How can I remove/delete individual files from a multi-file torrent after it has downloaded?

okay thanks,
that's what I was doing. just hoped to get rid of the 'false' error.

It's a bit of a run around but I suppose I could
  • remove the torrent (not the files)
    delete all unecessary files from system
    re-initiate the torrent - select only the files I want
    verify data
too bad unchecking doesn't stop it from expecting the file - I suppose this is too rare to address.

I understand what you're saying, but I think changing the behavior to what you suggest would cause more harm than good. For example, what if someone unchecks a file by accident? :)

It could simply ask you if you are sure before committing.

With Transmission knowing what was checked and downloaded before, it could even pop up and say:

===================================================================
The following files have been unchecked which will result in their removal and/or deletion:
file2
file5
file7
<Remove> <Delete Files and Remove> <Revert Changes> <Cancel> (Cancel for when you checked the wrong file, not to undo all your changes :!: - perhaps better to call it <Go Back>)
===================================================================

What do you think?

This would come in handy very frequently for me. :)

the steps i use occasionally are slightly less hassle:
pause torrent in transmission
delete files from file system via os
verify data in transmission
untick as appropriate
resume torrent

saves removing/re-adding the torrent itself.
