Hello
Is it possible to connect to a running Transmission daemon using the GTK+ client ?
I'm a Debian Xfce ktorrent user trying to switch over to Transmission. I first tried the standalone GTK+ client and really liked it: its interface is uncluttered and does everything I need. I then thought it would be more practical to run the GTK+ client only when I needed to work on the torrents. This is the scenario I use with mldonkey-server: the daemon runs in the background, and I fire kmldonkey only when I need to work on the downloads.
So I installed the transmission-daemon, configured it, and tried to connect to it using the GTK+ client, but had no success. I did manage to connect to the daemon using the web interface.
Here's my environment:
OS: Debian squeeze
Desktop environment: Xfce 4.6.2
Transmission version: 2.03
I wonder if someone has done this before and could share the know-how with me ?
Thanks
Paulo

transmission-gtk cannot connect to a remote session. It just wasn't designed with those goals when it was first conceived. transmission-qt, on the other hand, can do what you'd like it to do. Version 2.11 is the latest and greatest of the transmission-qt and daemon line.

Re: Connect to a Transmission daemon using the GTK+ client
Hi Rolcol
Thanks for your speedy reply ! I did as you told me and it worked like a charm: I could connect to the transmission daemon using the transmission-qt client. I have to work further on my setup to make it more comfortable. I did everything too anxiously to get it up and running, and didn't document the steps.
Anyway, transmission is indeed a great piece of software, clean, simple and efficient. I've already purged ktorrent and I'm sticking with transmission. I have pulled it from Debian experimental to get the latest version you mentioned (2.11).
Once again, thanks for your swift reply ! This kind of responsiveness encourages anyone to stick to transmission !
