Error: Unable to save resume file: too many open files

I am getting this Error: Unable to save resume file: too many open files. and when i try to quit it locks up and i need to force quit
It seem to happen after several hours if running for instance when left on over night or while i'm at work for the day.
its been happening for two or more months and i upgrade when ever transmission asks me.
In the hopes of fixing the issue i deleted and reinstalled.
that didn't work so deleted and installed the nightly build 2.11+ (11382)
still happens

these files are not on my computer so i could not trash them

i am running
OSX 10.6.4
mbp 2.66 i7
8 gig ram

i I currently have 20 torrents in transmission but it happen wether i have all of them active or all paused but 1 or 2
i normally keep d/l speed at unlimited and upload capped at 150k
and i have torrents in groups based on which tracker they are from

i have nothing in the crashreporter and the console says this about 50 1000 times over 2 minutes "Transmission[57731] Critical failure: the LastResort font is unavailable."

any help would be great thanks
