Trouble w/ Transmission 1.54 on iBook G4

Post by template »

Hello,

Recently, I've been using Transmission 2.13 on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.6. However I'd like to free up this computer and use an older laptop for torrenting.

My older laptop is an iBook G4 running OS 10.4.11 (this is the most recent version that this machine can run). The most recent version of Transmission compatible with this version of the MacOS is 1.54. Therefore, I am attempting to use Transmission 1.54 on my older laptop to download and seed torrents.

Here's the problem:

w/ Transmission 2.13 on my MacBook Pro, I was able to seed, slowly but steadily, at up to about 150 KB/s (though it usually seeded below 50 KB/s--probably an ISP issue).

w/ Transmission 1.54 on my iBook G4, torrents will have only brief "flashes" of seeding, for two or three seconds, at a maximum of about 30 KB/s. but then the seeding will drop back down to zero. In addition, often Transmission will indicate "0 of 0 leechers" when the relevant torrent board suggests that there are several, even a dozen, leechers. ... In brief, I cannot really seed at all using this version.

I have made sure there are no port-forwarding or other network issues. There are no other problems (network or otherwise) with the iBook G4. And it's not just that nobody (or not many people) are leeching the torrents. I can seed steadily, as noted, on my other computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can seed using my older laptop? Any fixes for this problem in Transmission 1.54? Any other software I should be trying? Am I S.O.L. (at least in using the iBook)?

Obviously all of this could be solved with me getting a better auxiliary computer. To that end, I am taking donations...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dude dunno if this is really what you're looking for, but with the help of LeopardAssist (http://leopardassist.sourceforge.net/supported.html) i have Leopard purring along on my iBook G4 800mhz. I use the laptop solely for torrenting and local sharing and it gets by no problem, running at 10-20% load with 600+ torrents in Transmission 2.13.

Def check it out man, once i got it all sorted it really made me wonder why i didn't do it earlier!
