Noticed my DLs are very slow, even those with 150,000 seeds (which used to go quickly). So I try another port: closed. And another: closed. And... I've tried probably 50 port numbers all over the map. Nada.
I've tried many different torrents, all the same result: slow (almost no DL at all). It's been this way for a week or more.
Is my problem local? The ISP (ATT U-Verse)? Or...?
What to do next?
Thanks,
S.

All ports I try are closed
Re: All ports I try are closed
OK, I discovered that the port in the router's firewall must also be opened in order for the port in the torrent app to work.
But now that I've got a working port, my DLs are still way slower than they used to be.
Used to be I could DL a torrent with 150,000 seeds in a matter of minutes. Now it says it will be days.
Is this a "choking" issue? Or...?

Re: All ports I try are closed
In the ATT U-Verse router (2-Wire model 3800HGV-B) I have some security items enabled (x=checked, o=not checked).
Might any of these mistakenly interpret torrent activity as a security risk and slow down my DLs?
Thanks,
S.

I ran the test and it gives joy:

Is your upload traffic rate limited?
There is no indication that your ISP rate limits your uploads.

Yes I have manually opened the ports in the router's firewall. I get "port open" result in both Transmission's Preferences>Network test and at http://www.canyouseeme.org .
Still slow.
Ideas?
Thanks,
S.

Re: All ports I try are closed
I had already addressed all those points except for the ubuntu test torrent. I'm doing that just now and the speed is averaging 3 Kbytes/sec (according to the information in the Transmission main window for that torrent).

Re: All ports I try are closed
OK, I just downloaded xTorrent and installed it. I opened one of the same torrents that I've been trying for a few days to get downloaded with Transmission.
Transmission says: 1 day (give or take a few hours)
xTorrent says: 28 minutes.
A BUG or what?
I'll be opening a bug report...

Re: All ports I try are closed
I installed previous version of Transmission (v. 2.22) to replace the current version (v. 2.32).
Now downloads happen at previous fast speeds.
Nothing like installing a "new" downgraded "update" (a.k.a 2.32).
Thank GOD for Apple's Time Machine simple backup scheme!

Free = crap DL speed?
$25 = awesome speed?

Re: All ports I try are closed
Thanks arg.barg. Good to know that.
I may upgrade later, but it will be only if I have to. If what I have (2.22) works, why upgrade?
And if I am tempted at some point I'll surely pour over these forums and see what the scuttlebutt is re. others' experience with the new version before "doing the deed".
Once bit... (and that was a *painful* bite -- when one presumes that the software is not the problem, you wrack your brain and scour all your router's / computer's / Transmission's settings. And if you're not an expert at these, by nature, it's a VERY slow, laborious, and frustrating process. Sheesh...)
The joys of being an involuntary beta-tester.
