12967 is crashing though, after running for nearly a day (osx 10.5.8). i'll give 12979 a try. does this link (http://transmission.xpjets.com/) no longer have the latest builds?

just an update that 12979 is still crashing on 10.5.8 (though launches ok).

i can't say i'm totally sure but the app hasn't really crashed since that last report which was before the summer, so i assume something had to change since. though it started crashing again in early september - perhaps i upgraded then but i don't recall what version and what exact date. i hadn't changed any T settings since then. i just upgraded to 10.6.8 last night so we'll see what happens.

however, now it seems there's a new problem. every single torrent (on several different trackers) says "announce is queued". i can't get any DL/UL going and my port is confirmed open, and firewall has T set to accept incoming connections - even tried with the firewall turned off. all settings the same since i upgraded. any ideas?

yes, none of the torrents are in pause mode. they are all green and the resume commands don't change anything. i have checked everything i know to check. all other internet apps - safari, firefox, transmit (ftp app like fetch), itunes, ichat, & entourage (email) - are connecting fine though this is my only torrent app. in the prefs, port light is green & says open. many of the torrents say "could not connect to tracker" and have many instances of this in the info log, but the error log only shows "unregistered torrent" messages. UL & DL have been flat at 0 when before i upgraded to Snow Leopard they were both very high and had numerous torrents going on numerous trackers. seems odd.
