Suddenly all of my seeding torrents disappeared!

Post by cteavin »

Hi,

I had to restart my computer quickly (online to tech support and Transmissions was taking it's time shutting down) and I force quit Transmissions. After I restarted the 400 files I was seeding were gone. It's not that big of a deal, but I'd like them back, if possible. Anyway, I wanted to download something else and when I loaded the new torrents into the queue Transmissions crashed, and continues to crash when I reload anything new into the queue.

I deleted Transmissions from the App folder. When I reinstall Transmission recognizes the preferences from the previous version I was running. In other words, it doesn't seem to have uninstalled.

What can/should I do?

Cheers,

Hi,

Thanks for the help. And I had a great day after I got off tech support -- Apple genius? Really? (lol)

I looked for those files. They're not in my system. I went into Time Machine and couldn't find them there in the past, either. I'm guessing Transmission does something different with Lion.

I went into Disk Repair and cleaned up the partitions and repaid the disk but Transmission is still funky. Are there any other files I can either go into TM and recover, or delete off my system?

Ah, I should mention that I also turned 'on' my hidden files and did a search with the finder. They weren't there, either.

I know it sounds crazy, but those files are nowhere on my system. I didn't set up Transmissions in any unusual way. I'm a power user, too. I seed about 1tb a day.

Further, Transmission is acting strangely.

No matter if I delete and download another Transmission program, no matter if I keep it in as a dmg or import it to Applications or another disk, whenever I try to start a new torrent, Transmissions either says that the file has already been added (when it hasn't) or Transmission seems to accept it but nothing shows up in Transmission thought there is something being down/uploaded in the Transmission icon in the Dock.

I've used Finder to search for Transmission, .plist, .org.m0k and various combinations and nothing comes up on either a system wide search or a Disk by Disk search. Honestly, I'm stumped. I'm guessing the file is corrupted and lurking as invisible or renamed.

Not sure if it matters, but I had called tech support to help set up a wireless printer. In the end we had to go into Safe Mode, delete the old printer files in the Library, reconnect the printer with the USB, download the drivers, and then unplug the USB to get the wireless to work. Just before shutting down the computer to open in Safe Mode I cut Transmissions off from the Activity Monitor and that was the last time it behaved.

And suggestions on what I can do in Terminal to find the files?

I've made progress.

After unsuccessfully trying to find the files through Terminal I downloaded a nifty little app called AppTrap which pulls all of the associated files into the trash with an application when you delete it. Now I've got some of the files you mentioned.

I have

org.m0k.transmission.plist
and a folder with the following
Blocklists (file)
dht.dat
Resume (folder with 460 files)
stats.json
Torrents (folder with 460 files)
Transfers.plist.

Whew. What to do with them now?

Well here's a new mystery for you:

Following your above advice, I put that folder back into Application Support. I put the .plist into Preferences. I opened a new copy of Transmission and everything seems fine, but when I went to add back in those torrents the file that I JUST put back into Application Support was/is no longer there. I went back to Finder and they are both gone, the folder and the .plist.

It's okay. I'm just going to delete the whole and start fresh. It's easier.

Would love to know why those files go rouge, though.
