Transmission is saturating my upload bandwidth.

Post by zang »

All 100KB of my upstream bandwidth is getting saturated by Transmission. Even when transmission is obeying set limits, it will be maxed out in the upload limit (according to iStat Menu), even though transmission itself is showing <5kb of uploading occurring to other peers. It'll dramatically choke off what I have, even when limited. Other apps on the computer seem unable to send anything out, even though Transmission is set to a limit far below my max upload bandwidth AND it's off-peak hours. When I quit Transmission, all goes back to normal. Download bandwidth seems to be acting normal, and Transmission's d/l gauge corresponds with what iStat Menus says.

Something odd is going on here, and I've tried both versions 2.41 and 2.33. This is relatively new. It's as though Transmission is just randomly barfing out a DDOS attack on my upstream.

What happens when you disable µTP in Preferences->Network? Try getting a reading from Activity Monitor as well. Also, I would suggest limiting global connections to 100.
Same here, help!

Activity Monitor does agree with Menu Meters.

" µTP in Preferences->Network" -- can't find that, where is it.
---------> Oh, not System/Network prefs... TRANSMISSION Prefs!
I disabled µTP (then re-launched) and that does limit the upload bandwidth but only to about 55KBps with frequent runs of 3-4 seconds to 70-80KBps.

**** UPDATE: After about 20 mins the data rate has crept up to 75 KBps average, not good.

"limiting global connections to 100." -- done.

My connections are 90, I am downloading only two torrents as we speak, and uploading only one, very very low rate it says.

Upload rate should be limited to 30KBps. My ISP provides me with about 1 MBps of reliable bandwidth.

Still, my upload rate creeps up and up. What do you suggest?
