Transmission GUI for Windows (exe)?

Post by php111 »

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum!

I have been told that Transmission is a good BT client. I am currently running uTorrent. I believe what I'm asking for we might hit a dead end where it doesn't exist, or unless I build it? I don't know until I ask.

I am currently running Windows 7. I use with exe installers, or I could use a ZIP, or a RAR. I was looking around here, and it seems like GTK, binaries, and everything else. I won't lie, but I know noting at all about command line, and building it to be an installer GUI. Honestly, for me to learn how to do it, it would be a complete different, and for me to get one little command right, it would take pages.

Here's my question. Would it be possible if I could get a Transmission client GUI in preferred exe installer? Or do I have to get binaries of some sort and build to run as an installer? I was hoping that you guys made it for Windows, but it's in a different download location of this site? I am running Windows 7 32-bit.

Please move my thread if needed!

Thank you!

Transmission-Qt Win

There are others (but I build the one above), look in the Transmission Project's Resources page.

I have no idea at all how to build it. Would that be an installer where I could just install it, and then fire it up then that's my GUI? I'm use to using pure GUI. When you said building it, I'm guessing it's not a GUI, but rather there is work involved in order for me to get it to be the GUI I'm looking for? Or am I wrong it's already what I'm looking for?

You misunderstood, when I said "I build it" it means I'm the guy who builds it, packages it on a Windows installer, and upload it to SourceForge.

The big green button on the link I gave you is to download the latest version.

It is Transmission-Qt, a GUI client, just look at the screenshots in the same page.

there is some confusion on your site as that Green Button just downloads "README-2.50 beta.txt"

i think most first-time users want this link, which has a Transmission-Qt-2.50-Setup.exe

http://sourceforge.net/projects/trqtw/f ... n-Qt/2.5x/

No it doesn't.

I just tested it, and it downloads the latest version of the installer.

That is weird.

Here's what I see (and I mean all the time, never a README in that place):

I have no idea what is going on, you as administrator just mark a file as the default for an OS, and that's it. The readmes never have been marked that way, only the latest installer.

Notice the download count also is different, and I don't get the other crap, er features (facebook, etc)... even weirder. Perhaps we are using different mirrors, and some are defective or something.

something even more strange: a few days ago when i tried your site the Download Button gave me Daemon Cygwin.7z

the only way i can find anything is hit the Browse All Files link, and work through the folders.

maybe other people are having same trouble finding the Setup.exe

Sounds like its giving you a random file.

Yes there is a daemon in the experimental files, a user couldn't download a 1.2 TiB torrent, so we tried with the daemon in Windows and it worked (the application gets one core red-hot, the daemon does it with 50% to spare). But I would never put that download as default.

Judging from the statistics most, if not all, users are getting the correct link. I double checked the attributes on those files, and none is set as default download. I'm checking the statistics on that daemon package and its strange, it says this week there have been 1+1+0+2+2+0+3 downloads, 3 today? 9 this week? maybe, compared to the 500 for the current installer its less than 2% which could really be people experimenting.

No, I don't think that is the problem... let's see Internet Explorer (which I don't use): fine; FF with cookies deleted: fine; FF with scripts blocked and cookies deleted again: fine.

I'll have to ask the SF guys or forum, thanks for the heads up.

OK, mystery solved: its the "user agent" in the Web browser.

When the browser reports its a Windows browser SourceForge shows the Windows download. When it reports that it is some other OS browser (perhaps Linux in this case) it offers a random file for download.

I fixed it, thanks to SF support and you guys. This was one of those "I didn't know that" moments.

I was just reading over this.

Do I have to fix the "user agent" in Google Chrome? I'm sorry that I learn slower, but could someone post instructions how to fix it using Chrome on a Win7 PC? I'm kind of lost how to fix this. I don't mean to be rude, but my IQ falls at 68, and all honest, that's not a normal IQ. I hope someone with patience can help me.

Also, I'm using CIS for a Firewall. It stands for Comodo Internet Security. Has anyone configured CIS, and Transmission for port forwarding? If so, what site did you guys go too for the steps to setup the rules to allow and/or block traffic either inbound, outbound, or both?

No.

Don't worry about this, it was I who needed changing some settings at SourceForge.
