Port randomization

Apologies for my ignorance, but I was wondering what the 'randomize port on launch' button is for.

(Mac - preferences, network pane)

Thanks x190. And what is the purpose of setting a random listening port on each launch - does it allow users to remain anonymous for example? Or is it for faster downloads and seeding, or something else entirely?
