[n00b] Changing seeding torrents to a different external?

Post by SkoiSirius »

So I've been doing a fair amount of research on this subject, but before I go ahead and muck anything up, I just wanted to make absolute sure I'm doing this right.

I currently have my torrent files and the data associated with these files on a specific external hard drive labeled "SKOIBACK". I would like to be able to keep my ratios and seeding of these torrents from a different external hard drive labeled "SKOIWIRE".

What is the best way to go about this? The conversation on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9073 had some really good answers. I did not know that Transmission kept it's own folder of the torrent files on my Internal Mac Drive until I read that thread. I guess I am wondering if I simply need to use the "Move Data File To" feature without moving all the torrent files with it, or if it's best to move all the torrent files as well?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

(Another afterthought question: You download a torrent file. You place the torrent file in a specific directory, and then load it into Transmission. No matter where that torrent file is originally placed, once loaded into Transmission, Transmission creates it's own copy of the torrent file to place into ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Transmission/Torrents ? Very curious.)

Really appreciate the confirmation.

Last question: So the original torrent files I have stuck in the folder with all the data folders basically become obsolete once I load them into Transmission? I guess I did not realize that it wasn't necessary to keep those around.

Thanks again!
