Active filter behaves differently in web client.

Post by MrBones85 »

So I'm new here but I searched the forums and couldn't find anything about this and it's been bugging me ever since I switched to Transmission. Wonderful application, totally love it BUT I'm a bit confused about this one thing...

When I'm using the Transmission desktop app (always latest stable, 2.76 at the moment) I like to be able to sort and filter my torrents easily. There's just one bit of behavior I don't understand. Most of the time I've got 600+ torrents "active" in the sense that they could be seeding if someone were leeching. But usually only a handful of those torrents are actually seeding, as in actively transferring data.

If I'm on the web client and I click "Show: Active" it only shows those torrents which are actively uploading or downloading. When I'm on the mac desktop app and I click Active, it shows me every torrent that isn't paused (which is usually all of them).

Why do they behave differently? I find the way the web client defines "active" much more logical and helpful. I've never found it useful to filter out paused torrents but I find it extremely useful being able to filter out those which are not actively transferring data (either uploading or downloading). I realize that I can sort transfers by activity (which is how I usually view my torrents now) but would find it way more helpful to be able to just click Active and have most of my 600+ torrents that aren't doing anything disappear.

Am I missing something? Is this a bug? Are they different features somehow?

Thanks for reading...

here is a patch that filters the active state perhaps as you want:

Thanks for responding! I'm really sorry but I've looked and searched and I still can't figure out how you go about installing this patch. And also it says it's for web client only? I see that it is you who said that. I'm confused...

OK, so what you want is MAC client to change, if I understand correctly.

I don't do MAC code but you can try new client for MAC from:

https://code.google.com/p/transmisson-remote-gui/

https://code.google.com/p/transmisson-r ... ui-4.1.dmg

and if you can patch and compile on MAC try this for MAC:

http://code.google.com/p/transmisson-re ... id=463#c35

Maybe/not something of the above will be helpful to you?

download a pre-patched web-client and
try in the "experimental mode" which has the patch already done for this web-client:

That patch doesn't seem to affect the web client's Active filter...?

I was having the same issue with the mac client.
I solved it by opening transmission preferences, click "transfers", click "management", under "queues" put a checkmark on "transfer is stalled when inactive for:".
Hope that solution works for you.
