Unable to Download or Upload

Post by procellous »

I'm a longtime Transmission user who has never had any problems with the application until now. I recently did a clean reinstall of my OS (OS X 10.8.5) and one of the first things I did was install Transmission, which worked fine from the start. I don't remember the last thing I did before all new torrents I loaded into the app wouldn't download, but neither regular torrents nor magnet links are working. I also have good reason to believe that I'm not uploading either, although my port is open and http://www.canyouseeme.org also reports an open port. I've tried completely removing Transmission using TrashMe and reinstalling it. I've tried restarting my iMac, modem, and router. Command + 3 reports the following errors (which, I learned on this form, are known issues): 2013-10-06 06:53:48 +0000 tr-udp.c:59 [Error] UDP: Failed to set receive buffer: No buffer space available; 2013-10-06 06:53:48 +0000 tr-udp.c:78 [Error] UDP: Failed to set receive buffer: requested 4194304, got 196724. I'm running Transmission 2.82 (14160). I'm using Verizon FiOS with their stock modem and an AirPort Extreme, which I've also just tried resetting. Any help would be appreciated.

Man, I figured it out within the last hour...it was my dumb firewall. I had added my port to the firewall's whitelist or whatever, but I guess it was still blocking it because after disabling the firewall altogether, everything started moving. Now I changed the firewall to interactive and allowed it, so all is well. Thanks for the reply nonetheless. :)

I suddenly seem to have a similar communications problem. Each download attempt shows "magnetized transfer - torrent metadata needed". Upon further look, I am not seeding anything either. I have deactivated the Mac firewall, although I'm sure that has always been turned on, and checked to randomize port, although the port shows 'green', open.

I appear to not be communicating through transmission at all. Still checking things. This is quite a turn of events as this has always worked flawlessly.

You don't have any other firewall/security/protection stuff dealing with your Internet connection running in the background? All of my magnet torrents weren't retrieving the metadata either when I had my problem, and my port was always open, too. Check to make sure that nothing is interfering.
