Re: Transmission freezing after Yosemite upgrade

So, we have people on Apple's forums reporting Transmission crashes with Yosemite, we have reports on MacUpdate that Transmission crashes with Yosemite, we have users here reporting Transmission crashes with Yosemite. Everyone is reporting the pretty much the same behavior (which is pretty specific once Transmission crashes).

Yet I see absolutely no indication that the Developers recognize there is a Transmission problem here. This is the only app I have under Yosemite, on 2 Macs, that is not behaving well. uTorrent and Deluge (which I am now using) both run just fine.

I agree 100%. I fully understand that Transmission is free and open source, and the developers and other contributors donate their time to the project. I am very appreciative, and I hope the developers recognize that this is a wide spread issue.

Here is the only things that standout in my Console logs:
This I believe was after the display went to sleep.

Code: Select all

Transmission[XXXXX]: CoreAnimation: warning, deleted thread with uncommitted CATransaction; set CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 in environment to log backtraces.
This I believe was after waking the display.

Code: Select all

kernel[0]: process Transmission[XXXXX] thread XXXXXXX caught burning CPU! It used more than 50% CPU (Actual recent usage: 99%) over 180 seconds ...
This is on Transmission 2.84

Anybody have Rogue Amoeba's InstantOn component installed? If so, I'd be interested to know if updating it solves the problem.

It *appears* that this was caused by sorting transfers by activity. So far I have not had my aforementioned problem if I make sure to sort by another mean before the display goes to sleep for an extended period of time.

I'm almost positive that my client was sorted by date added, or possibly name. I stopped sorting by activity a long time ago because it was too resource-intensive.

Perhaps this is a bit on the fringes of possible causes.

I switched to uTorrent a while ago. Too many crashes with Transmission. I run a Crucial MX500 ssd and forced garbage collection last night. This is the second time I've forced Garbage Collection and the second time uTorrent would not run. Needed to be reinstalled, no old torrents could be loaded. Said they were already there but, while the downloaded content was still there, the torrent files were not.

I run 24/7 so I don't need to force Garbage Collection as there's enough idle time. I'm wondering if the routine is cleaning out some files Transmission requires?

Be interesting to know if those with issues are running ssd's.

Same for me, OS X 10.10.2, latest nightly, still a lot of crashes, I am forced to "Force Quit" Transmission with "Force Quit Applications" and restart my Mac (otherwise Transmission just bounce in the Dock and never open) so now I use uTorrent until the devs finally do something :(

Ok, sorry I don't figured what you mean first..
Transmission downloading torrent normally -> then remaining time grows.. 1 hour, 1day, 1, month, year etc..
Then programs start to freeze... -> now Transmission says "Device not configured" -> computer is totally freeze.
I´m not start transmission as login item.

Update OS X to 10.10.3
Now transmission cause kernel panic

No errors in Transmission log. This is last what it writes:
2015-04-09 05:54:17 +0000 torrent.c:3257 [Debug] xxxxxx.zip: [LAZY] checking just-completed piece 51

Even with the latest nightly I still have the same problem.

Here's my latest crash report https://gist.github.com/anonymous/cc38dd25d99f0d1d7873

The worst thing is that, after Transmission crashed, my whole Mac crash, and I can't even shutdown properly my Mac I have to do a Force Power Off otherwhise it'll be stuck indefinetly like this:
