We would like to use transmission to transfer very big files (6GB+) reliably from one to an other host. We work with very fast connections. In all our test setups FTP is about twice as fast as transmission torrents. For example:
6 GB file
FTP Transfer speed: ca. 45MByte/s
Transmission Torrent speed: ca. 28 MByte/s
There cannot be traffic shaping involved as we are testing inside our own datacenter. Are we doing something wrong or are Transmission Torrents by nature slower than plain FTP? What can we do?
FTP twice as fast as transmission

Re: FTP twice as fast as transmission
I would like to add that in this scenario there is only one seeder and one leacher. Later there will be more but for us it is very important that is also works only with one seeder and one leacher. We use Transmission-daemon 2.84 and Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS.

Hello mathew
Thanks for your tests. Well you compare ftp with http. Note that this is about ftp vs TRANSMISSION DAEMON!
