Apologies if this has been covered somewhere else - couldn't find anything on the forum search or wiki.
I am midway through downloading a few torrents that will take a while to finish for various reasons (lack of seeders, size). In the meantime I would like to move the location of the incomplete files to a new drive, and then have transmission continue downloading these torrents to the new incomplete files location.
Is there any way to do this using the regular interface of transmission?
And if not, here is what I was thinking of doing - will this work?
1. Close transmission
2. Copy my incomplete torrents folder to the new drive
3. Open each of the .resume files in the Library\Application Support\Transmission\Resume - and replace the text specifying the incomplete folder on the first drive to the incomplete folder on the second drive - for example:
Change incomplete-dir36:/Volumes/First Drive/Torrents - Incomplete9: to incomplete-dir36:/Volumes/Second Drive/Torrents - Incomplete9:
4. Open transmission and these torrents will successfully continue downloading??

Re: Change incomplete torrents folder mid download
The posted solution sounds very easy, but I can't find such an option in my transmission client. Is there any other way to change the folders after starting the download? (Actually the files have finished downloading a long time ago. I just want to keep them available for others, but organise the folders in a different way...)
I'm using Transmission 1.22 (6191) on Debian Lenny.

Re: Change incomplete torrents folder mid download
On the other hand I could find this in my transmission, and feel a bit stupid for asking the original question!
Lenny, not sure if you can do this also, but my version of transmission (2.1.2) can do this, if you still have the original torrent file. Just take the current torrent off your list, and move the data files to the new location, then re-open the original torrent file (if you can't find this it will be in the Library/Application Support/Transmission/Torrents folder).
When the adding torrent window comes up, there is an option to choose a specific download folder, so choose the new location. Then press verify local data, and this should check that the data for that torrent is there (on my version the blue dots next to the file folder names turn to grey dots - note this can take quite a while for large files). If you then press Add it should come up on your torrents list as a completed torrent, and will seed as normal.

Re: Change incomplete torrents folder mid download
Thanks for your advise, bluebottle.
I found the torrents on my system in the following folder (only searchable with su-privileges): ".config/transmission/torrents/".
Anyway, it didn't really work because there where only those torrents which I had already in the correct folder. All other torrents are lost unfortunately. (This happend despite the fact that I checked the folder beforehand on the command line. There where all torrent files in the folder, but Transmission obviousely is only able to find the torrent files which are connected to the standard folder I defined in the preferences. All other files are just not listed in the selection folder for adding new torrents.)
I guess I could try adding those lost torrents on the command line as well, but I think I invested enough efford now.
An other issue I found was, that Transmission always uses the first ever defined standard folder for downloads. Since months I've defined a new standard folder, but transmission keeps adding new donloads to the old folder. (I have to choose the wanted desination folder in every single case by hand.)

Re: Change incomplete torrents folder mid download
The change is still permanent in my preferences after many restarts. But that doesn't cause any difference.x190 wrote:Always stop the daemon before making changes or they will be overwritten and lost when you do quit.
Do you suggest, that even if the change sticks in the preferences after rebooting Transmission could ignore it?

Re: Change incomplete torrents folder mid download
Did you actually stop the daemon then make the changes and after that start it up again, or did you just make the changes and then re-start it?
If first one, then something is wrong.
If second one, then you are doing it wrong.

I guess it's not possible to stop the daemon in the gui because I couldn't find any option to do it. I have to do it from the command line, right? (That means I have to search the specific command for doing so first ...)blacke4dawn wrote:Did you actually stop the daemon then make the changes and after that start it up again, or did you just make the changes and then re-start it?

Re: Change incomplete torrents folder mid download
Yes, upgrade. Transmission has had the option to "Set Location..." in GTK for a while now. It allows you to either point Transmission to where data exists, or move the data to that location.
