Reset Transmission

Post by Robin Hood »

I have a problem I've posted here. I'm running transmission-daemon (I believe it's called) I believe version 2.2 or something, but I don't know how to be sure (however it was install fairly recently, so I can't be more than a release or two behind--and I doubt even that) on my CentOS 5.5 server.

I know next to nothing about using linux, I don't know much about anything related to the server really. I managed to install it (and it was completely useable and bug free for a decent amount of time) from a copy-and-paste guide (I don't recall where) before something happened and it all went to hell. This is all by way of saying that I would be INCREDIBLY appreciative if a kind soul would help me out speaking to me as if I were a complete moron (which in this area I unfortunately am).

It seems like perhaps I can't just do a tweak to fix the Transmission I have on that server. I'm wondering:
1. Is there a way to basically just do a reset of Transmission?
2. Is there a guide to uninstalling and reinstalling Transmission (and would that be likely to fix the problem)?
3. If I'm going to have to do a big reinstallation I'm gonna start from a fresh OS install--any particular flavor of linux you'd like to recommend?

Thanks to everyone who works on (and/or has worked on) developing this fantastic tool and thank you to those of you who spend your time helping mindless oafs like me use this wonderful tool!
