TM suddenly not working

Post by spacebar »

Hello friends,

been using Transmission for years, never had any problems. Since yesterday, new torrents fail to start downloading. I've tried multiple different magnet links and have verified that it is not the links. I'm on the latest version of Transmission.

The only clue I can get from console is repeated messages saying

02/03/2013 10:02:59.719 netbiosd[72]: name servers down?

I am not having any problems with any other internet connections.

Any clues as to where I can start looking to resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: System = OS X 10.8.2, Transmission 2.77 (14031)

Quick update: as a test I downloaded another client (uTorrent), and that is working with the same trackers, so the problem is definitely related to Transmission somehow.

Please help, I don't like the uTorrent client!!

I'm having the same problem. All of a sudden it won't connect to any peers, whether seeding or downloading.

Has anyone figured it out yet?

Well, no idea how or why, but suddenly TM has just kicked back in again, and all torrents are sucking up data like they've been on hunger strike for a week (and twice as fast as the same ones are downloading in parallel on the uTorrent client, for some other unknown bizarre reason. But that's why I love TM... -- actually 'twice as fast' is an understatement, uTorrent say 1wk3days to ETA, TM says 1hr 48mins for the same torrent... ).

Maybe you'll just have to wait it out, Mike. Try the uTorrent client in the meantime if you've an urgent download going on.

I'm using 2.77 on 10.6.8 and TM has been very unstable all of a sudden. Many, many peers but activity from only 1 to 5 of them and speeds that crawl as slow as 0.1 kb/s to 60 kb/s but mostly zero.

When TM does kick in for a few minutes the speeds go as high as 1.8 Mb/s but for the past day or so this has been the exception.

Wassup here?

Same issue here.I just updated to 2.77, and nothing is moving now.
Have tried magnets and torrent files, all stuck at 'torrent metadata needed' and 'remaining time unknown'.

I'm noticing that since I've "upgraded" from Leopard to 10.6.8 my hard disk operation has become a little funky. Random items can't be emptied from trash until a reboot or weird error messages when I try to delete files, also solved by a reboot. I know this next item is probably unrelated but now my Epson Artisan 810 refuses to print most of the time.

I guess it's me, not Transmission in this case.
