Does the Port-Number matter?

Hi guys!

I'm using Transmission for quite a while now and today I changed the port using for Torrent-Transfers.
I have used 51413 in the past and switched to one in the range of 60000-65000 because I read that there's less traffic on them.
Just an urban legend or is this really true?

urban legend, otherwise browsing on the internet would be damn slow... (because nearly everything uses port 80...
the only thing that could be is that your ISP is blocking those numbers
