definite noob question

Post by pmmassacre »

Hello,
I'm running transmission 0.6.1 on an Emac with 10.3.9.
Unfortunatly I cannot upgrade my OSX so I'm stuck with 0.6.1.

The download speed has been pretty good when there are enough seeders (sometimes a couple of hours or a couple of days depending on the file size and seeder amount).
The upload speed has been horrendous tho.
It usually says "seeding to 0 of 5 peers" 1.3 kb/s.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the seeding?

0 of 5 peers means you are not connecting to peers or they are not connecting to you. What "could" solve the problem [but maybe not] is opening a port.
To open a port look here:

maybe there are just to much seeders for those torrents? how many seeders and leechers are there?

Seems there are only 3 seeders and 1 leecher

with that less peers it could be that you just can't connect with them. try to pause and continue the torrent.

I tried that a couple of time and it didn't work.

I just realized that on canyouseeme.org it's not finding my port.
it keeps saying connection timed out.

The whole run down is that I have 3 computers (1 pc upstairs and 2 macs downstairs where I live) on the same modem.
They all go through the linksys befsr4 v3.
What I did in transmission 0.6.1 is went to preferences, changed the incoming port to 50003 (I tried everything from 9090 to 50001).
Went to my system preferences> network and saw i was online though built in ethernet.
Then in system preferences I went to sharing and checked the firewall which said it was off.
Under description(ports) I made a new one called Transmission and made it 50003.
Checked the box and when I scroll over it, it says "This is your firewall entry for transmission. It is currently on and all TCP network traffic on port(s) 50003 is being let through."

So next I typed my routers ip into firefox and went to applications and gaming.
Typed trans in the application. For start to end I put 50003 to 50003 (I tried 50001-50009 and that didn't work either).
Kept the protocol as both and typed the last number in my routers ip in the box provided.
I checked enabled and saved the settings.

I download something and the dl speed was pretty good but it then said i was seeding to 0 of 10 peers at 1.2kb/s.

When I went to canyouseeme.org the ip they had was totally different numbers, but when I typed that different number in my browser it still took me to my router page.

I typed in the port number and it said "I could not see your service on xx.xxx.x.xx Reason- connection timed out".

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I thank you for all of your help.

could you give me a print screen of the port forwarding in the router? maybe you did something wrong there (are you sure you selected TCP?)

Your port forwarding is correct
Do you have auto forwarding on in Transmission? (turn that off and try if it works)

Also try canyouseeme.org to see if your port is open (if it isn't then it is something with your router)

On 0.6.1 how would I turn off auto forwarding.
I tried canyouseeme.org and it still says connection timed out.

It sucks cause my ratio is getting me kicked from sites.

Also, in the screen shot it looks like you are forwarding the port/s to 192.168.1.1 which is by default the IP of the the router, not the local machine. You might want to check the IP of the computer you are using Transmission on and type that address in rather than the .1

Ya I had a feeling it was my router or isp.
I'll try the next step, thanks all

what timta2 said may be correct, try to search in your internet preferences and what is after: "IP-adres" that is the number you need to fill in there
