I had to drop 1.71 und revert back to 1.70.
1.71 carries the old beach ball problem when seeding and downloading more than one large torrent. It looks like 1.71 has got a hickup when more than one large torrent is active.
I'm using TM on Mac OS X 10.5.7, iMac C2D 2,33, 2 GB RAM.

EDIT: Now that I reverted back to 1.70 even this version is no longer able to seed and download more than one large torrent at the same time. This is kinda strange...

Cheers,

I have 1.71 on a Synology DS108g (i.e. headless) and is working perfectly. In fact, transmission is using less CPU and memory than ever and in such modest hardware is handling 24 transfers without any effort. Thanks to every one that helped develop transmission and congratulations on such a fine release.

sevmpe,

I am running transmission from the optware feed on a Synology CS407 and I was just about to post a new topic in "Support" to report the newly frequent daemon crashes, reported also by some other users here in different threads, when I read your hopeful post.

For me transmission-daemon is crashing unexpectedly with no further information when running in foreground, just

Code: Select all

Killed
I've seen this since "1.61+r8420" (the first and only suitable 1.6x version on optware feed which fixed the "404" and "open torrent" bugs from 1.60/1.61) and also with 1.70.

Unfortunately one of my hd's had crashed when i came home today so I first have to check/repair or even replace it before any further usage of my syno because I won't take the risk to run my raid5 in "degraded mode" if not absolute necessary. So I haven't tested today's transmission 1.71, also a new version of libevent (1.4.11) is on the feed since yesterday (which might make a difference?)

It would be great if you could report if 1.71 will remain stable for you!
What is your torrent activity, how many active seeds and leeches are you running? I'm not sure, but it seems that the daemon is not crashing when I'm only seeding, but the more simultaneous downloads are active the more frequent the daemon is "killed". And what version of libevent are you using?

I have been using the alltime rocksolid tm1.34 so far, but now I really don't want to miss the enhancements to clutch with 1.6, also I find the 1.7 webui much "snappier" then ever! Thanks to the developers for their continuous work!!

Are you setting:

Code: Select all

EVENT_NOEPOLL=1
before running the daemon?

If no, then its a well known problem with libevent on many NASes: every time you connect with the Web client the daemon crashes.

I updated to the latest version and it seems that all my torrents have either stopped or are seeding/downloading at insanely slow speeds.

Even if you do not access the webgui or via any other means the process still stops.

transmission 1.71 crashed my whole system 3 times already after install in a very short time. i guess about 30 minutes after starting transmission. i'm on 10.5.7.
i can't do ANYTHING when transmission hangs. only my pointer lives. i was able te switch to Finder and Activity Monitor in an early stage and saw SystemUserUI was also hanging.

Force Quitting Transmission from Activity Monitor was resulting into the hanging of the app itself. Even as the Force Quit Menu! [cmd+alt+esc]
i've been waiting for a short time, but of no avail.
Had to use the power button out of desperation.. which is never a good thing. and no crash reports available..

anyone an idea what could be te problem here?
in the mean time back to.. damn, i don't know wich version i had earlier.. argh..

* running about 4 seeds and 5 leeches, running in Speed Limit mode.

Web client problem: doesn't refresh the view after pausing one or more torrents. The data is refreshing every 5 sec as expected, but the list of torrents is not updated when looking at the seeding filter in this case.

Only reloading the page shows that the torrents where really paused.

Prior to updating I had aprox. 150 torrents in a certain group, seeding. When the program restarted, they were all gone. Since my settings trashed the torrent-file after it was added, I've no easy way to add them again, should I ever feel I had the time to do so.

It's things like this what will make me switch to µTorrent; it feels like for every new release that fixes something, something that used to work either works worse or not at all.

I've got a new one: It is refusing to recognise new torrents at all - including ones downloaded with V1.61 - it keeps trying to create a new torrent...

Hi cico,

We share this Syno so now I discovered that there are 3 downloads and 7 uploads active at the moment with a handful of peers. Anyway, it seems to be stable to me. It's been running since I updated it last Monday, that much I know because I upgrade or start/stop transmission if needed. The version of libevent installed is 1.4.11 and I set the peer-limit-global to 60 (the router dies with higher values).

I am not an expert so I'am afraid I don't have any advice for you but I hope you can work out the issues you are having.

sevmpe,

thanks for your report!

When I came home this afternoon the raid5-rebuilding on my Syno had just finished, so I immediately did a clean install of 1.71 and started 5 simultaneous, well seeded leeches (which would had crashed 1.6x/1.70 for me just after some minutes!)

So far (since 5 hours now) it seems to be stable! :D
