first time seeding...

I just created a torrent I would like to send to a friend. However, I can't find anything about how to begin the initial seeding so he can actually download it from me. Any help would be great. Also, maybe give a quick walkthrough about creating a torrent in transmission so I can verify that I did it properly. thanks in advance.
