Dammit! Twice now I'm totally stalled at 99.9x% complete.

Post by mickm »

I'm running snow leopard 10a432 and the last two torrents I downloaded (each about 7-8GB) incompletely "finished" - one at 99.98% and the other at 99.92%. They stayed that way for over 24 hours before I gave up on them. Both were different torrents and both reported zero seeders and a bunch of peers during the stall at the end. Both also reported "remaining time unknown" throughout their entire download. I find it highly improbable that this happened twice - on the first one I used 1.73 and on the second I used 1.74b1. I've tried quitting and restarting etc without luck. During both downloads I had to pause the transfers and shut down for a while and I'm wondering if the segments downloading when paused didn't properly pick up where they left off. Any thoughts on what went wrong or how I might salvage all this data?

If I look in the torrent inspector I see:
Announce failed: tracker did not respond.
and
Scrape failed: tracker did not respond

Not sure what that means though...

Just as a follow up to my previous post - is there any way to determine exactly which piece(s) within my 99.98% complete download are missing or incomplete?

If you mean which files are complete and which aren't, go to the Inspector pane, then check the 5th option, it's like two paper sheets.

There is only 1 file I'm downloading and it's 99.98% complete. My request was meant to ask if there was a way to determine which torrent pieces were missing - the idea being that there be some subsequent way to specifically request them from the original seeder. I checked the log file and it did report a few pieces had bad checksums, but then it never reported that they were successfully retried (which would be nice to know).

I was also going to post a postulation that Transmission perhaps intentionally withholds the last little bit for a while in order to keep seeders hanging on a little while longer, and that for an 8GB file perhaps the enforced wait time turns out to be excessive. I'm probably inviting multiple flames for that, but it may explain things.

The fact that the time remaining is "remaining time unknown" means that no one has all the data - everyone in the swarm is missing the same thing. Transmission isn't withholding anything.
