Closed port & Internet cuts out

Hello,
Yes I did a search and yes I read the other related posts but to no avail. .

I have been using Transmission for while now, was getting download speeds of up to 100kbs, and was reading that others get speeds well in excess of that. . . so I followed the steps on the transmission website for port forwarding. .that is when it all goes to shit . it now barely downloads and then cuts my internet out. . . . now I can not download any Bit-torrents anymore. .

I am running an intel i-mac, OSX 10.6.2, TPG ADSL2 through a Netcomm Nb7 modem & Airport Express . . . when I open Transmission preferences it shows port is closed. . now to be honest I never payed any attention to it before.. now it is clearly on my mind. .

I read the treads here and tried all the fixes with no success. . i checked online and no ports were open on that port checker. .but the net works until I start transmission. .

I even deleted transmission and the current downloads which sucked as it took me ages to obtain.

Please assist. .
