1.80 and 1.81 ports opening and closing

A few nights ago I let Transmission update to the newest version at the time (1.80) and every few minutes all of my current traffic for all torrents would instantly jump to 0 and stay at 0 for anywhere between 30 seconds and 5 minutes. I have played around with all of my port forwarding settings/UPnP and nothing seemed to cure it. Sometimes the port would be open and sometimes it would be closed, changing ports didn't help either. After updating again to the now current 1.81 I see no improvement. I jumped back to 1.76 and everything is running smooth now having not changed any of my network configurations.

This perfectly describes what's happening for me. Both 1.80 and 1.81. Running under 10.6.2. Under 1.80 I had the slow startup problem, but this seems to have been fixed in 1.81. The problem Quail describes remains, however.

hi guys .... i am totally desperate because i have the same failures as u 2 discribed .... my mac is vers. 10.6.2 snow lep.
the port says allways its closed ... typed on in : like 6881 ... it s open , but still after a few sec its allways goes down to 0 ...

any help i can get is very appriciated ... thx

oh ... and after update 1.82 from tm didnt fixed it yet ... bummer !!!

I should have also mentioned that I am running 10.6.2, and during my attempts to troubleshoot 1.81 and 1.80 I referenced this article on configuring Transmission http://www.techsupportalert.com/content ... -speed.htm. It was written for an older release but the concept is the same none the less. In the end none of it helped, the reliability of Transmission's built in open/closed port indicator was about the same as canyouseeme.org, both checks would result in fluctuations in the port being open or closed.

As I said I finally rolled back to the version I was using before, 1.76. The method I used to roll back without losing any of my transfers goes like this:

1, Navigate to http://download.m0k.org/transmission/fi ... n-1.76.dmg and download 1.76
2. Take note of where your current Transmission is installed and either rename the Transmission app or move it somewhere else(trash perhaps)
3. Put 1.76 where your 1.80 or 1.81 was and run it

The result for me was as if I had never upgraded from 1.76 to begin with and I didn't need to mess with adding transfers/finding my old torrent files etc.

Transmission's 'Help' files recommend using a port in the 49152-65535 range. Please read thru this resource for additional help

I'm using 51413, but like Quail, my rate repeatedly drops to zero and stays there for an indeterminate amount of time and then starts up again. This did not occur with 1.76, and I didn't change any configuration. 1.80,1.81, and now 1.82 all show this new buggy behavior. Because it worked before and now doesn't, and having looked at the help files, I seriously doubt that consulting the help file will help anyone who is having the problem described in this thread.

@ quail - thx mate i am finally downgraded my self to 1.76 and i am back in the race ..... gosh .... a few gray hairs more an my forhead ... thx again !!

i agree. return to 1.76; 1.80 and above are buggy. we'll need confirmation that upgrades above 1.82 have resolved the problem. so i would request that developers post a message on the Transmission home and download pages when bugs that cause intermittent and prolonged dropouts are fixed.
