Transmission unresponsive

I cant be the only one having problem with transmission being unresponsive when im downloading faster than 1Mb/s. I have around 60 or more active torrents.
You cant scoll trough them or click them or add new torrents. It is just showning the colorfull ball all the time, it you wait a long time you can do stuff but everything is in slow motion. I cant even shut down transmission i have to kill it in the activity manager. It is hardly any CPU load so i dont know what is causing it to be so slow.
I have had this problem since Leopard and maybe even tiger i cant remember.

I like the program, but im forced to quit using it if this continues.

I have a mac pro 2x2,66mhz 4 GB ram, running snow leopard and transmission 1.8.3.
Please help.

It's hard to say for sure without doing a longer Q&A session with you, but my first guess would be disk IO... especially if (but not limited to) you're dowloading to an external drive.

Thanks for taking time to try to help. I dont think its the discs. I have 3 internal disks all 7200 rpm, 1 for OS 2 for storage. I works fine in utorrent but i like transmission more. Im surprised that nobody else has the same problem, i have had the same issue the last year, allways using the lastest version of transmission when available.
