'Checking Existing Data' stuck

I'd nearly completed downloading a 8GB torrent when my macbook crashed. Now when I start transmission 'checking existing data' just does not move and I cannot resume my torrent. Never had this problem before when my mac has crashed.

Please tell me there is a fix? I've rebooted a dozen time, tried repairing permissions but no luck.

I've had some trouble with 1.82 getting stuck near the end of the check. Clicking the Pause button, then Restarting the torrent seemed to do the trick.
