Turtle Connection

Post by themagicmanfromtrent »

I'm not sure is this is already possible, but I want to stop transmission from connecting to peers when in turtle mode.

Turtle mode is used by users for several reasons, primarily to control their bandwidth at certain times. Despite setting transmission to 0up and 0down, it ends up sending so many DNS requests that the network slows down to almost impossibly low rates.

Hopefully someone can find the time to add in that when bandwidth is set to 0,0, transmission shouldn't connect to peers.

It might even better to introduce an tick box option to disable ALL connections during the scheduled period and/or a corresponding third tortoise 'state'. So, clicking the turtle icon would scroll through the three states thus; unrestricted (black tortoise), restricted (blue tortoise) and disabled (red tortoise).

If you want transmission to not send or receive any connections, you could just quit transmission. A cron job that starts and stops transmission at the specified time instead of having a complicated 3 way toggle.

No, because it's a server, and I still want to add and manage torrents, just not have it do anything until a certain time.

I'm pretty sure this isn't that difficult to implement, and that it's a needed change.
