Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem with Transmission. It's not recent, but I've just now decided to ask about it. I've had it for several versions of as well Transmission as OSX. At this moment I'm running OSX 10.6.3 with Transmission 1.92 on a new (june 2009), 15" (fastest possible, with the 3,06ghz processor and 7200RPM 500GB harddisk) Macbook Pro.
The problem is that Transmission becomes very slow, or even irresponsive when downloading with high speeds. By high speeds I mean above 3 MB/s. It doesn't matter wether this is the total download speed, or the download speed of a couple of torrents combined. This gets pretty annoying, as I've got a great tracker and a 120 Mbit connection, so I'm usually able of downloading with 10 MB/s or faster.
If I've got Tranmission closed (only opened in my dock), I'm not able of opening it. After clicking it, it sometimes takes up to 2 minutes before it appears. The rest of my system remains responsive. If Transmission is opened while downloading with these speeds, I can't close or minimize it, and pressing anything in the window, will take up to 2 minutes as well before it does what it's supposed to. If I just leave it alone, it works as supposed, but the download speeds hardly ever update, so even then it's just slow. The downloads do really go with these speeds as they do finish in time, so in the background it does do what it should.
I've recently did a reinstall of OSX, and I've had this problem on my previous Macbook Pro as well (the one before the unibody's came out, fastest version of that one as well), so I don't think that could be the problem. Maybe it's an application I'm running that gives Transmission a hard time? I've searched google several times last months but can't find anyone with the same problem.

That seems to be the same problem as I'm having. No solution though. Also, I've only got 3 torrents in Transmission of which 2 are seeding and only 1 is downloading. As soon as it's finished Transmission gets fast again. Non of the torrents are really big either, they are between 1GB and 4GB.

I really love Transmission and really don't wanna switch to Vuze or uTorrent, so I really hope someone can help me out here!
Thanks in advance!
Transmission gets irresponsive, downloading at high speeds
Re: Transmission gets irresponsive, downloading at high spee
Is Transmission allocating disk space during this time? That can cause it to appear to hang.
Re: Transmission gets irresponsive, downloading at high spee
I'm not sure if Transmission is allocating disk space while it's slow/irresponsive. I don't think so though, as it's irresponsive even when the download is almost finished. I'll check for it tomorrow when I start a couple of torrents though.
x190: I'll disable DHT and limit the connections to see if it helps. I don't really want to limit speeds though, as that's the whole point why I got this connection. I can't imagine limiting active torrents would do anything, as I sometimes only got 1 seeding and 1 downloading when this happens, and the one seeding (finished) sometimes isn't even really seeding. I also don't think I'm overloading my network, as it even happens when downloading with 3 MB/s, and downloading from ftp or the web with 13 MB/s doesn't slow down anything.
By the way, what does disabling DHT do? Will it influence my download speed much?
Thanks for the quick responses!
